However, we did not appoint her based on a balance of biological sex differences or distinctions between genders.
The selection of individuals is based primarily on qualifications and capabilities, and as a result, female executives have emerged.
Certainly, I may have gained a different perspective from the other two male executives.
But is that simply due to gender differences?
The values of someone raised as a man and those of someone raised as a woman may differ, but this might be due to the amount of experience living as a man/woman.
Of course, that also increases management perspectives. On the other hand, separately from that,The existence of "masculinity" and "femininity" in psychological and spiritual aspectsI was made aware of something.

Interestingly, the term "masculinity/femininity" is a phrase that our female executive, Seno (Managing Director), has recently started using frequently.
So, this time, I decided to ask Senoo about the "masculinity/femininity" that each person possesses internally, rather than just the biological sex difference of male/female.

Why did we start being conscious of "masculinity/femininity" in the first place?

I think it was about 10 years ago, it's a phrase I came across when talking with a consultant.
They told me something like, "You should be mindful of balancing masculine and feminine energies."
But at the time, I only understood it as, "Oh, is that so?"
In the back of my mind, it's always been there... My boss even told me, "Ricchan* has a strong feminine side (femininity)."
However, I don't dress like "the typical girl," so I didn't quite understand what made me seem that way.

Then, a few years later, my understanding and acceptance of my own "femininity" came about... It was triggered by a seminar I attended with members at the manager level and above, including the executive team.
During the seminar, I learned that there's a cliff between executives and managers or general employees.
It's a width that might be possible to jump across, but a cliff so deep you can't see the bottom.
With that analogy, I learned the difference between those who took the risk of leaping off a cliff (business owners) and those who did not.
When I imagined myself standing with the general employees, looking across at the management on the other side of the cliff, I felt a strong sense of dissonance, thinking, "This isn't where I belong!"
What was being asked of me was to be on the other side of the cliff (the executive side) and build the future together with the president and chairman.
I also realized that the president and the chairman had been reaching out to me all along.
At that time, this is strange, but... I felt like everything was connecting.
And at the same time, it just came to me, "Ah, I have a really strong sense of femininity."

We call each other by our nicknames here at the company, and Senoo is called "Ricchan" internally.

Regarding masculinity and femininity, do they each have their own characteristics?

At the seminar mentioned earlier, we had the opportunity to split into teams and participate in a debate.
My previous strong focus on winning and losing has faded, allowing me to participate very naturally and giving me the余裕 (yoyū - composure/freedom) to pay attention to everyone else.
I was able to notice everyone's good points, and at the same time, I was able to naturally accept that I have different characteristics and charms.

Speaking of the female manager who was active in that debate, she's the type of go-getter career woman who says, "I'll work no matter what it takes" (laughs). She's also very responsible and incredibly talented.
Watching her, I felt a strong sense of masculinity.
I think it's like gear she's acquired to work in a male-dominated society.
Just like I was. But she also has a strong sense of "femininity" within her, and I started to wonder what kind of attractive person she would become when that aspect started to come out.
When I told her, she said, "I feel so much lighter."

Currently, women make up nearly 60% of the workforce in Japanese corporations.
Instead of just looking at superficial information like "nearly 60% are women," I've come to recognize that both men and women possess their own "masculinity/femininity."
I realized that my "feminine energy" is very strong, so my approach will be feminine, but there's also a masculine approach.
There are people in the organization who can do that.

Since becoming aware of your "femininity," have there been any changes?

A long time ago, when I was in charge of the design team, there was an employee who often came in late.
They'd make all sorts of excuses, like "My watch was broken," or "I forgot to check the time!" I mean, one day they actually said, "I forgot to check the time!" (laughs)
At that time, I, who had a strong sense of masculinity, was initially angry, thinking, "That's impossible! How could that happen!?"
And, regarding "I forgot to look at the clock," I was pressing them on it while fact-checking it.
When masculinity is strongly expressed, there is a tendency to turn everything into a "challenge," which leads to that kind of communication.
But I don't think I'll do that right now.
"Did I forget to look at the clock? How can I not forget?" That's probably
When something needs to be changed, I believe it's essential for the person themselves to voice their points of reflection and improvement, for those words to be heard by their own ears, and for them to go through their brain and heart.
One might feel detachedly assessed when facing facts and be presented with improvement suggestions without further discussion when "masculinity" is strong.
It's not that it's bad, but I realized that it's a different approach from what I naturally possess (strong femininity).
However, now that I'm also an executive in charge of HR, I can't hire

Also, the approach to individual interviews has changed significantly.
When I had a strong sense of "masculinity," I tried to draw clear outlines of events and concretize everything.
That's why the employees sometimes felt discouraged and I was always making them nervous.
When femininity strongly emerged, the outlines became blurry.
However, I've started to not mind it anymore. Before, I used to clearly visualize and see the employees' work attitudes, productivity, and careers at the company, but that has completely changed.
My perspective shifted to that of "a person's life," and naturally, my way of interacting with employees also changed.
For example, I naturally became interested in questions like, "What kind of life do you want to lead?"
I've come to feel that I can't say anything without it.
I’ve come to be able to think alongside them about what kind of career they need to live the life they vaguely envision, and what they should be doing right now.
Since then, during our meetings, the extreme nervousness and apprehension have disappeared. Instead, there's been more laughter and instances where we've been so moved by each other that tears have fallen.

Also, since I’ve let go of my obsession with winning and losing—such as the desire to defeat others—I’ve become able to accept any complaints from employees in a natural way.
I used to respond with "What mouth is that saying that!" and might have thought, "The fact that an employee is saying that to me is a problem on my end!"
By not making them an issue, they become stepping stones.
So, I’ve come to think, “Since it’s just a stepping stone, isn’t it natural for things to change?”
However, if it's only that, the organization will become spread too thin, so
In particular, since “men with strong masculine traits” and “women with strong feminine traits” tend to complement each other, it might be worth keeping this in mind when two supervisors conduct employee reviews together.

Sex Differences and Trait Combination Table

男

女

[Masculinity]
・I don't feel comfortable unless I make it concrete.
・I want to get things organized
I want to decide on a conclusion.
Obsessed with winning or losing
I want to dominate (authoritarian)
・Logical, sound reasoning
To convey

[Male x Male Sex]
He’s the type of person who views everything as a “challenge,” carefully analyzes each situation one by one, and calmly proposes solutions.
The logic is sound, but be careful as it can sometimes become difficult for the other person to accept emotionally.
Therefore, things move forward, but if you're not careful, they tend to become one-sided.

Female × Male Sex
A woman with a strong sense of justice and a serious demeanor,
He demonstrates an incredible sense of responsibility.
When it comes to work, she's a sharp and cool career woman type.
However, there's also the possibility of it being too much to handle alone and burning out.

[Femininity]
Abstract is comfortable.
・It's okay if things aren't organized
There's no need to decide on a conclusion.
・I prefer it when there's no clear winner or loser
(Going with the flow, being swayed by the crowd)
・I don't want to control others
I don't want to be responsible.
Emotions, sensations
・Listen

[Masculinity × Femininity]
The kind of person who’s always eager to help out and look after others.
I like taking care of others.
However, I only care for them in the way I want to, so sometimes they don't ask for it. on "masculinity/femininity" in recruitment and team building?

That was true for me too, but those qualities don't manifest unless the person is aware of them.
Therefore, even if I advise you, "Because you have strong masculinity...", it's almost meaningless.
In that sense, even if we were to "read" a candidate during an interview, I don't class="wp-block-paragraph">Currently, in our small management team, the gender ratio is 2:1.
But, from my perspective, the ratio of masculinity to femininity is 1:1.
The president is 1 in masculinity, I'm 1 in femininity, and the chairman is about 0.5 in both.
I often find myself realizing during management meetings just how important this kind of balance is within an organization.
As mentioned earlier, "men with strong masculinity" and "women with strong femininity" complement each other, so it's a good idea to be mindful of that combination.
In our case, it's the president and myself.
By complementing each other's weaknesses

Also, it
Deadlines and budgets need to be clarified, and vague outlines many people who have a strong sense of "masculinity," whether they are men or women.
It would be good for such business owners to have someone who exhibits strong "feminine energy" as a support
