Exploring new possibilities for brick-and-mortar bookstores: A website redesign based on business challenges.
Following the creation of their 60th-anniversary website, we were consulted about redesigning their corporate website.
With management resources being focused on the stores, website improvements inevitably fell behind, and they wanted to review and improve it on the occasion of their anniversary.
I held numerous meetings with project members from multiple departments to discuss fundamental aspects such as defining the objectives.
As a result, this project went beyond simply redesigning a company website; it led us to a strong sense of crisis that the traditional methods and roles of brick-and-mortar bookstores would decline with the rise of companies like Amazon.
Therefore, we explored what we could do while utilizing our existing resources, and decided to introduce an order and store pickup system that integrates with external systems.
Furthermore, one of the challenges was utilizing the data of hundreds of thousands of members. This led to the need to create a system that could replace the membership cards used in stores, and to develop content that would make members feel the benefits of logging in.
In this project, our company was responsible for defining the objectives, creating customer journey maps, formulating the website concept, determining the feasibility of system integration, proposing content plans, creating wireframes, and designing and coding the basic pages.
Other aspects of the website, such as coding and programming, and server replacement, have been handed over to another company.
