Due to the state of emergency declared because of COVID-19, there was a period when all employees were encouraged to work remotely.
During that period, "Morning Meeting Lite" was created based on a suggestion from the staff.
Actually, we had staff working remotely even before the pandemic, and our communication with our Philippine subsidiary (LH&creatives Inc.) was already done via video chat.
Therefore, the transition to remote work proceeded without major disruption, but some minor challenges did arise.
I no longer have colleagues nearby with whom I regularly interact, and my workplace is my home.
After a while, some people started saying that they were losing their sense of structure and that they were slacking off at the beginning and end of their workdays.
Then, one of the staff members suggested, "Since we're working remotely, why not hold a morning meeting instead?" So, we decided to hold a morning meeting that would be easier to participate in than the in-person meetings we used to have.
Therefore, when we first started using Morning Meeting Lite, we used it to give brief updates on how staff members who were working remotely were spending their time during the remote work period, since we couldn't see how they were doing.
Especially during the pandemic, anxiety and stress had been building up without us even realizing it, so simply sharing how we were spending our time together made us feel much better.
We decided to refine the content a bit once we had a good understanding of how the staff were doing and they had become accustomed to the operation (i.e., when everyone was starting to get bored).
Although the name includes "Lite," it is literally a lighter version of the morning meeting.
This event was planned with remote participation in mind, and participation is generally voluntary.
By the way,It's recommended to strategically name meetings and other events to avoid losing sight of their purpose.I will.
Once the initial objectives of the system have been largely achieved, it's necessary to update those objectives and fine-tune them to the optimal level.
For example, we practice values-based management and submit daily reports.
To make the daily report initiative more meaningful, we've implemented a system where we select morning meeting reports written by our colleagues and share our thoughts on them.
It's nice to know that someone is interested in you.
We aim for a company culture where people naturally show interest in one another, and we use Morning Meeting Lite to achieve that.
That said, it's not a formal or stuffy activity; as the name "Lite" suggests, you only need to give your thoughts for about one to three minutes, but it's interesting because you can learn about your friends' thoughts and perspectives.
Thanks to Morning Meeting Lite, we've become more interested in the daily reports our colleagues post, and our understanding of our colleagues and other departments has deepened. We also achieved results in internal branding. That's how I feel.
By linking it to an already established routine, such as a morning meeting, daily reports, which many companies struggle to implement, can be revitalized. So, why not give it a try?
